February Newsletter

The SEPRI is excited to report another great month for rail in the Southeast. Here are a few things we would like our members and followers to know.

Letter from the President

First, I would like to say thank you to all our supporters. It is through your drive and work that the SEPRI is growing at such an exponential rate. Bringing high quality rail to the Southeast is more than just a passion, it is a necessity. Our future will require the increased mobility only rail can provide. It will allow all the entire Southeast, from the rural areas to our densest cities to grow in a way that is fitting for the 21st century. I hope you all will continue to support us and our mission.

Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority

The SEPRI would like to acknowledge the Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority. The BSPRA is working to restore an east/west state long distance route through the southern half of Montana. This route will not only provide another east west connection, but will provide a vital link to a part of the country with very limited rail access. For more information please click the picture below.

Amtrak News

This month, Amtrak has started to do test runs along the new New Orleans to Mobile corridor. After an agreement made among Amtrak, the freight carriers and the Alabama port Authority, service is set to begin on this route sometime within 2023. Although the agreement has not been published, Amtrak has stated it would like to run two round trips per day along the corridor.

Summer Internships

In April, we will be announcing our summer internship program. If you know a college student who is interested in rail advocacy please let them know about this opportunity. More information will be posted soon!

Rail Events

Feb. 16

Virginians For High Speed Rail will be host a virtual town hall. The topic is "Moving America: Amtrak's New AIRO Trains featuring George Hull with Amtrak and Steven Morrison with Siemens." To register or learn more information click the button below.

Feb. 18

Marta will be hosting an open house to discuss the Clifton Corridor. This project has unfortunately been change from a fantastic light rail project to a increasingly limited BRT scheme. This is despite the fact that Atlanta area residents voted for a sales tax increase with the promise of rail transit. For more information or to show your displeasure click the button below.

Support the SEPRI

We at the Southeastern Passenger Rail Initiative are working very hard to bring high quality passenger rail to the Southeast. Please consider helping us fulfill our mission by making a monetary donation.

Thank you.
